Back to School

So, many of you know that Sam began second grade on Thursday. Tradition states that a school supply list will be distributed prior to the school year beginning so students have time to get their supplies.

Y'all. I bought ALL the supplies. When we met his teacher, I asked her if there was ANYTHING not on the list that she would like or need for her classroom. She said snacks, so you know what I did? I went to walmart and BOUGHT a class snack for Sam to take.

Today is his third day of second grade and y'all, on my way home from dropping him off, I was listening to a local radio station. EVERY ONE of those radio personalities were COMPLAINING about having to buy school supplies.

EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Are y'all listening? THEY COMPLAINED ABOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR 4 YELLOW HIGHLIGHTERS.

They said it was X dollars to get all of the supplies on the list.

If parents don't buy the supplies, you do know who has to buy them right?? Right?

TEACHERS

Teachers who already don't get paid enough to do the job they do. Teachers who come to the school a week earlier than your child to prep their classroom. Teachers who spend loads of time making lesson plans and grading papers. Teachers who love your children like their own.

It really grates my nerves to hear people complain about having to buy school supplies, asking "what are they going to do with 82 pencils?"
These supplies are meant to last the ENTIRE school year, but often they don't. I mean, Sam had mechanical pencils last year and had used or lost all the lead for them in a week. A week. What is he supposed to do the rest of the year if he doesn't have a pencil to write with?

JUST SHUT UP AND BUY THE SUPPLIES IF YOU ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE THE INCOME THAT ALLOWS YOU TO BUY THE SUPPLIES.

I've personally been in the position where we COULD NOT afford to get everything on the school supply list and it sucked worrying about sending Sam to school without the things he needed.

Imagine being THAT parent who worries how you're going to pay to get the necessary supplies and uniforms for you child or children, and then go buy the school supplies without complaining.
